Deanne Moyle-Hicks NBCT, a 28-year teaching veteran and the 2022 Nevada State Teacher of the Year, is honored to be a guest on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation where she is a fourth-grade teacher at Natchez Elementary. Working in Title I schools in northern Nevada, Moyle-Hicks advocates for education that embraces and empowers all students of diverse cultures. To provide students with needed consistency she has looped with her current students since first grade. Because Moyle-Hicks believes in cultivating family partnerships she works to build relational trust which has a significant impact on student success and achievement. She is passionate that all children deserve relevant and rigorous learning experiences.

Moyle-Hicks grew up in Eureka, a rural farming and mining community in central Nevada and attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education. She received her Masters of Education in Literacy from Lesley University, and obtained her National Board Certification in Literacy.

In 2014 Moyle-Hicks received the Elko County Staff and Teachers Achieving Results with Students award for exceptional performance and commitment to the education of all students. She shares the 2017 Innovations in Teaching Leadership Award with several staff members for advancing the mission and vision of STEM education and was featured in the Hand-in-Hand Program for making a positive difference in the lives of children with disabilities. She continues her teacher leader journey as a Senior Policy Fellow, SEL Change Agent and Senior Research Fellow with Teach Plus, an InspirED Global Fellow and a 2021 Understood Fellow alumna. Moyle-Hicks co-facilitates of a statewide teacher leadership book club in partnership with the Nevada Regional Professional Development Departments.
